Hey racers!

A few things you will need to know for race day…

Packet pick-up (where you receive your race bib, t-shirt and swag bag) will be held at Red Racks in Affton on Saturday June 29, 2013 from 10am – 4pm

.  To allow you time to enjoy the race village and get your Fish Eye Fun photos taken prior to the event, we strongly encourage you to attend the packet pick-up.  Packets will also be available for pick-up race morning at the Sons of Rest Pavilion at Tower Grove Park.

The packet pick-up event will also serve as a donation drive for our partners at Red Racks. Red Racks thrift store is a non-profit store owned by the Disabled American Veterans.  We know how hard you have been training and that you may have some clothes that no longer fit (yay!) that are taking up precious space in your closet.  We ask that you help us support Red Racks and the DAV by bringing any unwanted clothing or home goods with you to packet pick-up to donate.

Pre-race festivities, packet pick-up and registrations will open at 7:00 am and close at 7:50 am at the Sons of Rest Pavilion.  Race begins at 8 am.
The pre and post race village will have the following for you to enjoy so arrive early and plan to stay after…
-Stretching and soft tissue work provided by Logan Chiropractic and Stretch U.
-Souvenir photos for everyone provided by Fish Eye Fun (check them out at FishEyeFun.com).  Lines will be long for the photo area, please plan accordingly.
-Vendor booths (some with great giveaways!) including but not limited to: Tower Grove Creamery, Pretzel Boy’s, Grandma’s Cookies, Hampton Gardens Apartments, Y-Not Party Bus, Studio 703 and the Carondelet YMCA.

Awards will be held following the event in the amphitheater behind the Stupp Center.

On a very inspiring note, we have the pleasure of hosting Kenedy Maze as a first 5ker.  Kenedy is 14 years old and suffers from cystic fibrosis.  Kenedy and her mom, Sandra have been in St. Louis from Kentucky since January waiting on a double lung transplant for Kenedy.  In April they finally received their hope when Kenedy received her transplant.  Since her transplant, Kenedy has created a “new lung bucket list” and on her list is completing a 5k.  We are lucky enough that she has chosen My First 5k! as her first race!  Kenedy however, does not have the luxury of having a support team with her here in St. Louis.  I am requesting that we come together as a group and help form one for her.  If you have any friends or family that may be willing to walk with Kenedy (she isn’t able to run yet) please have them register and choose the team name, Kenedy’s Hope.  Let’s show Kenedy and Sandra how compassionate St. Louis is!
If you have any additional questions you can reach Heather at hcarter@groundfloorevents.com.
Keep training hard!  We will see you race morning!
The My First 5k! Team

Do you think a 5k is too lofty a goal for you? Have you never signed up because you are too intimidated? Are you worried that you’ll be the last one across the finish line? Does the thought run through your mind, “I can’t even run a mile so I certainly can’t run a 5k!”? If you answered yes to any of these questions then My First 5k! is the perfect race for you!

A 5k for Those Who Haven’t Run a 5k!

My First 5k! is a race designed to holistically support, encourage and guide you through every step of your first 5k experience. We have phenomenal partners who believe in you just as much as we do and are excited to help you train, teach you how to stay strong through nutrition, and empower you to believe in yourself as much as we at My First 5k! believe in you.

Already Run A 5K?

If you have already run your first 5k and want to join us in supporting all the first 5kers, sign up and join the My First 5k! Staff Running Team.  We have many first 5kers who haven’t signed up with support runners and we don’t want them to feel left out!  All of our Staff Runners will start their run at the back of the pack and work their way through the crowds finding first 5kers who need support.  By the end of the race, each staff runner should be running with a first 5ker or another support team so you can experience the finish line elation of a first 5ker up close and personal!  When registering sign up under the team name Staff Runners to secure your spot as a motivational runner.  Staff runners are encouraged to wear white on race morning so everyone knows who they are.
